Under the direction of Donald Kensinger, First Presbyterian Church continues a history of exceptional music ministry. Chancel Choir practices Wednesday evenings from 7:30 – 8:30. Soloists – from the choir and invited guests– often sing during worship. Through Kensinger’s mentorship, high school musicians often sharpen their talent and faith through involvement in the music program here. Currently, FPC instrumentalists include Kensinger, who has been at the FPC console for 54 years, pianists Suzanne Lowry and Dollie Hager, flautist Melinda Testerman, and trumpet-player Trevor Foy. The church’s antiphonal organ is unequaled by any other church organ in southern West Virginia. Traditional hymns and sacred music sometimes give way to contemporary hymns, praise songs, piano/organ duets, and gospel. Members and visitors frequently remark that the music is the most meaningful part of their worship experience!
